As global environmental awareness continues to rise and carbon peaking and neutrality goals advance, the food packaging industry is undergoing a profound green transformation. Biodegradable, renewable, and recyclable bio-based materials are transitioning from concept to large-scale application, becoming a key direction for food packaging companies to upgrade and transform.

During a recent packaging industry exhibition, reporters noted that several food packaging companies showcased new packaging products featuring biodegradable materials such as PLA (polylactic acid) and PBAT. These materials can achieve over 90% biodegradation within 180 days under specific conditions, balancing both performance and environmental benefits, with market acceptance rapidly increasing.

A food packaging industry analyst pointed out: "The cost of bio-based material packaging has continued to decline in recent years, and processing technologies are also maturing. It is estimated that by 2027, the penetration rate of biodegradable packaging in the food packaging sector will increase from the current less than 8% to over 15%." This trend places higher demands on material R&D capabilities of food packaging companies.

As a professional food packaging production enterprise in China, Baodafor New Materials Technology Co., Ltd. has in recent years continuously increased its R&D investment in the bio-based materials sector. The company's technical team has conducted specialized research on the processing performance of PLA and other materials, successfully developing multiple bio-based packaging products suitable for food preservation, frozen storage, and other scenarios.

"We have observed rapid growth in customer demand for eco-friendly packaging, especially among export orders and chain restaurant customers," said a Baodafor technical executive. "The company adheres to a two-pronged approach in material R&D: on one hand, we ensure quality upgrades for traditional food-grade packaging materials; on the other hand, we actively develop bio-based material solutions to provide customers with more green choices."

Industry experts believe that the transition to bio-based materials for food packaging companies is not only a response to environmental needs but also an important path to increase product added value and explore high-end markets. As more companies join the green track, the competitive landscape of the industry will also usher in new changes.
